Meet The Leaders: Subzero

Months after its revival, Dark Warriors continues to grow and solidify its place within the community. With that being said, it is time to get to know some of the faces of the army, starting with one of the key Leaders who revived the army, Subzero.

Subzero began his journey in the army community in late 2009/early 2010, which is more than 15 years ago! It is crazy to think that a veteran of the community like Subzero would still be around. Originally, he was not called Subzero, he was called Meano4. However, despite building himself up in the community, he was banned from Club Penguin in 2011 and was forced to rebrand to Subz11 aka Subzero.

Even though he was forced to rebrand himself, Subzero soon became a person to be remembered as he became a Leader of RBAA (Red Blue Army Alliance) in 2011, which aimed to be as powerful as the World Powers. During its short time in the community, the army faced up against the likes of Pretzels and Light Troops in war. However, during the war with LT, their army was hacked/defaced. Ultimately, this left them with nothing. Thus, they merged into the Elites, ending the short journey they had embarked upon.

RBAA vs Pretzels

While Subzero is a current leader of Dark Warriors, it is not his first rodeo in the army. Sometime after RBAA, Subz entered DW, and his time there proved to be much more meaningful than his last venture as he built himself up as a Leader and was able to work alongside Legends like Elite910. Leading with and learning from Legends was a privilege. Yet, this was not enough for Subz. In the current generation of DW, he has shown himself to be hungry for more, and the same could be said about him in the past, too.

This leads us to one of his most memorable runs, which was in Pretzels, an army he once faced in war. One of the sad things is that a lot of history has been lost in time, with sites deleted or defaced and moments left unrecorded, but Subzero had quite the impact on Pretzels. He was known to many as a recruiting Leader – a leader who thrived in the recruitment aspects, helping the army to gain more publicity, grow and become a serious contender within the Top Tens week in, week out. His impact on the army led to him even gaining the title of Legend.

His time within the community has been long with multiple retirements, multiple reigns as leader and a load of experience being gained along the way, but let’s talk about what you’re here to read about.

The Dark Warriors held their revival event on July 5th. Yet, thoughts about the revival began long before this. Subzero was just one of the key figures who instigated the revival talks for the historic army, aiming to restore its legacy and bring it back to the community from which it originated. However, not all the details of this have been spoken about. So let’s find out what really went down.

I approached Subzero for an interview about his history in armies and the Dark Warriors’ current generation.

INTERVIEW SECTION

For those who may not know, how did you discover Club Penguin Armies?

I mean I started playing the game itself through the miniclip forum – some months after that I’d decided to see what else the game had to offer & so I searched up club penguin this or club penguin that, eventually I’d searched club penguin army and there they were.. Club Penguin armies. Purely by chance now I look back on it like

Over time, you’ve been in a lot of armies, but what have been your most memorable moments?

This is a tough question due to my memory being a little foggy from all those years ago but from what I can remember a real highlight in my career was my time leading the pretzels and achieving legend status due to my work there – I was big on recruiting and went full send with it most days, also beating waterkids pirates in a war was satisfying, creating life long friendships with some of my co leaders and army members – we were also enemies with the current top 4/5 at the time iirc, also overthrowing Lord pain and then getting overthrown by him was quite a moment there lmao.

Though I say the Pretzels I do think there are many armies I could mention, getting s/m to number 1 on SMAC a handful of times does make me proud. I could talk about this stuff for some time as it all comes back to me! Shout outs to Vikings & Shadow troops! And ofc Oreos.

You came back to the community after a long time out of it. What drove you to return?

I’d came to discord in 2019 solely for the purpose of reconnecting with people, and so I did, but after about a month or so I’d disappeared again. I then came back in 2024 and was hanging in “the mob” discord (cpa vets and friends) for a few months prior to my official return in December, it was over this time spending with people from the community and dabbling in the actual community that I’d decided it was time for a “retirement run” as I’d basically disappeared from armies without official retirement in 2014, when that will be I’m unsure of however it’s nearly been a year back and I must say I’ve fallen in love all over again.

Could you also tell us a bit about DW’s revival talks?

It started in the DW vet server between me and Justin and also Ambrosha gave us a surprise visit which was refreshing – it was just a small conversation at the time that didn’t really go anywhere however me and Justin both spoke to Ambrosha separately behind closed doors – separately from this myself and Holo2 with the help of Antman were already pretty much at 100% completion of rebuilding a site and discord for “ghosts of cp” which was an army me and Holo created but didn’t do much with many years ago – if it wasn’t for the change of plans and amazing communication then we may not have seen a DW revival at all. Holo got the confirmation from Ambrosha and we were all set to revive the legend what is Dark Warriors, and I couldn’t have been more happier to go in that direction.

So what happened after the talks and discussions of a revival, and how have you dealt with the pressures of reviving a historic army?

After the talks and a few things being clarified which Ambrosha made clear, it was time to build a team of like minded people that shared the same goals and values for what was to be a successful comeback and future, we had some hiccups at first with who was going to come in and join leadership, specifically Joel and Bschar were meant to join leadership but as we know some problems unfolded and it just wasn’t the right move for us, so we were kinda back to square one but we didn’t give up, we held out and lo and behold some rando named Coolguy decided to shoot us a message, turns out he was a pretty cool guy and is still in leadership till this day, thankfully.

In regards to the pressure, there was of course difficulties with former leaders and vets of the army which sort of put the revival on pause, this was a big problem for us until we realised how to approach the situation and handle it fairly in which we hosted a 3 day vets open discussion for all to share their thoughts and opinions on the revival of DW. But by doing this we took a risk because ultimately if this didn’t work out in our favour we would’ve had to close everything down and our time and efforts would’ve been all for pretty much nothing however we had to be fair and that’s something we stand by.

Also might I add that if we didn’t have such an amazing vet pool then all this may not have been as successful as it has so far, for example Salah worked his way up and is now an exceptionally brilliant leader. I just realised I think I read that question wrong. If we’re talking current everyday/weekly pressure I would say that it’s not all smooth sailing but our team handle a lot behind closed doors in order to make sure that the army is run smoothly and continues to achieve successfully, the way everyone handles things here is impressive, I’ve never seen such a compatible group of people. Much praise to my DW family.

You stated this was your last run —what does the future hold for you and DW?

For DW, pure success and long lasting stability for the years to come.

And there we have it. Subzero’s journey in CPA has been full of diverse experiences, but it is far from over. With two tournament wins under his belt already, he is cementing his place within Dark Warriors’ history. But what will the future hold for Subz? Will more wins come his way? Will DW be his final destination?
