What Are Puffles?
Puffles are small, colourful creatures that Penguins can adopt as pets in Club Penguin Journey. Each colour has its own personality, and Puffles can accompany you around the island, interact with certain furniture and help you discover hidden items.
There’s plenty to do with your Puffles. You can feed them, play with them, take them to the Puffle Park, participate in Puffle-related activities and increase their affection as they level up.
The Pet Shop in the Plaza is the main place to start your Puffle adventure. From adoption to furniture and other Puffle-related features, it’s worth becoming familiar with everything this location offers.
Puffle Colours and Adoption
Club Penguin Journey features a variety of Puffle colours, including the ten standard colours listed below. Standard Puffles cost 800 coins each to adopt.
- Blue Puffle – Friendly, loyal and easy-going.
- Red Puffle – Adventurous and energetic.
- Pink Puffle – Cheerful and active.
- Black Puffle – Strong-willed and adventurous.
- Green Puffle – Playful and energetic.
- Yellow Puffle – Creative and artistic.
- Purple Puffle – Fun-loving and energetic.
- White Puffle – Small, gentle and sweet.
- Orange Puffle – Curious and playful.
- Brown Puffle – Intelligent and inventive.
There are also special Puffles that have appeared through events and other activities. These include the Reindeer, Sensei, Pumpkin and Froggle Puffles covered later in this guide.
How to Adopt a Puffle
Ready to adopt your first Puffle? Follow these steps to get started.
- Head to the Plaza.
- Enter the Pet Shop.
- Open the Adopt A Puffle catalog.
- Choose your preferred Puffle colour.
- Purchase your Puffle using coins.
- Give your new companion a name.
Once you’ve adopted your Puffle, you can access them through your Player Card and take them with you around the island. Remember to look after them if you want to increase their affection and level.
How to Care for Your Puffle
Looking after your Puffle is an important part of owning one. Keeping your companion happy allows you to build affection and work towards higher levels.
- Feed: Give your Puffle food such as Puffle-O’s.
- Play: Interact with your Puffle to keep them entertained.
- Rest: Let your Puffle rest when they’re tired.
- Wash: Keep your Puffle clean.
- Walk: Take your Puffle around the island.
- Play games: Spend time with your companion through available Puffle activities.
Regular interaction is useful for increasing your Puffle’s affection and level. If you’re working towards unlocking more digging rewards, make caring for your Puffle part of your regular routine.

You can find the Puffle Backyard at your igloo, where you can send your puffles to hang out for just 20 coins each. This is a handy way to keep their stats from draining, as they’ll stay the same for 14 days while they’re there!
The Puffle Park
The Puffle Park is a great place to spend time with your Puffle. You can access it through the entrance inside the Pet Shop in the Plaza.
The park features activities such as a trampoline and a pond, alongside opportunities to feed and interact with your Puffle. It’s worth visiting when you want to spend more time with your companion and explore the island’s Puffle features.
Puffle Games
Puffles have historically been connected to several games around Club Penguin. Depending on the game and the current features available in Club Penguin Journey, you may be able to bring your Puffle along for the adventure.
- Puffle Launch: Launch your Puffle through challenging levels.
- Pufflescape: Guide your Puffle through caves while collecting puffle o’s.
- Puffle Roundup: Round up Puffles and return them to their pens.
- Catchin’ Waves: Hit the waves at the Cove.
- Jet Pack Adventure: Fly through the skies while avoiding obstacles.
- DJ3K: Create music at the Dance Club.
- Aqua Grabber: Explore underwater environments.
- Dance Contest: Show off your dancing skills.
- Cart Surfer: Ride the rails in the Mine.
Puffle Levels and Affection
As you care for your Puffle and interact with them, you’ll build affection and increase their level. Levelling up is especially useful if you’re interested in Puffle Digging, because different reward pools become available at higher levels.
Keep your Puffle happy, spend time with them and make use of the available activities. If you’re aiming for the higher digging reward tiers, you’ll want to continue levelling rather than stopping at the first few rewards.
Looking to level up your puffle faster? I recommend playing Pufflescape or Cart Surfer, as the more coins you earn in either game, the more experience your puffle will gain! For Pufflescape, I find replaying Level 11 on Expert mode to be a great way to rack up coins. If you’ve collected every stamp for either game, you’ll also earn double coins while playing. Even better, Double Coin Weekend gives you another 2x bonus, making it the perfect opportunity to earn plenty of coins and boost your puffle’s experience!
Puffle Digging Explained
One of the most useful features of Puffles is Puffle Digging. Your companion can uncover coins and items, giving you another reason to keep caring for them and increasing their level. Puffles will begin digging coins from Level 5 and items from Level 8.
Different reward pools are associated with different Puffle levels. There are also specific digging rewards associated with individual Puffle colours and special Puffles. The sections below separate the general level rewards from the Puffle-specific rewards, making it easier to find what you’re looking for.
Puffles can dig up coins and items, but there’s a short wait between each find. Once that timer runs out, your Puffle has a 50% chance of digging something up each time your penguin moves. I’d recommend clicking around the ground repeatedly after the cooldown ends to speed things up!
Your Puffle’s level also affects how long you have to wait:
- Levels 5–17: 5 minutes between digs
- Levels 18–36: 4 minutes between digs
- Levels 37 and above: 3 minutes and 30 seconds between digs
Looking for a particular item? Use the table of contents above to jump to the level tier or Puffle you want to check.

Availability depends on the event or feature through which a special Puffle was introduced. Check the island during seasonal celebrations to see which special companions are available.
Puffle Show
The Puffle Show is another Puffle-related feature worth exploring whenever it’s available. It has allowed Penguins to take their Puffles through an obstacle course and participate in Puffle-themed activities.
